Wattamolla Lagoon - the new Tree at Dusk (Torch-Light Detail)
Camera: Nikon D700. Lens: 70-200mm F/2.8. Shot at 6.08pm on 11th September, 2014. A 82 sec Manual exposure, with no Filters used. A colour processing of a Tree that was washed over the waterfall at Wattamolla Lagoon in the recent Rain event, which gives you an indication of the enormous body of water that smashes through the Lagoon at these times... I love to leave the shutter open in extended Exposures, using Light-Painting to fill in a foreground, or to highlight detail in my composition. Light-Painting with my Mag-Lite torch enables me to detail the Tree nicely in this image. I've shot this Tree a few ways, now. I love the Scale & Depth in this image. Bringing the surrounding bushland into the image gives the Tree a sense of place. The Lagoon is a classic amphitheatre, with an untouched beauty that compels me to capture it, particularly around Dusk.
Display note: This is a Dark image. It explores Imaging at low Light levels; a subject I'm passionate about. For best enjoyment of this image, I advise positioning on a light-coloured wall, in a room with high levels of Ambient light. Dedicated image-lighting is recommended.
