North Cronulla Dawn Filters - an inquisitive Seagull & a beautiful Sunrise
Camera: Nikon D700. Lens: 24-70mm/f2.8 @ 38mm. Shot as a 1 second Shutter priority (!) exposure in April 2013. Shot from the Alley at North Cronulla beach, facing North East towards the Sunrise. 1 stop of Filter held the Exposure enough to soften the moving elements within the scene. 4 exposures after the earlier image, & the sun is peeping through some low cloud & haze. I think I was holding my breath at this point, hoping all the elements in the image would come together. The amount of detail in the image is really pleasing for me. It starts off in your mind as a simple image of a beautiful Dawn, & the various elements gradually assert themselves. And suddenly, a Seagull drops by for a look.
Processing Note: this image showcases the fragility of the light of early morning. Processed with restraint to retain it's character, printing of this image will be in the same vein; marking a different style of image to the majority of the `Dawn & Dusk' collection.
